The first Climb and Glide Event of 2007 took place
today in difficult weather conditions, the wind gusting up to 25mph at
times. Although
this limited the number of competitors, all enjoyed the event.
First to go was Steve Green flying an electric powered glider to test the conditions,
achieving a glide of 1min 30secs plus a bonus of 20 points for landing within
the circles.
Mick Wilson then followed with an aerobatic model, but was unable
to beat this time. He then made a tactical swap to a Pilot Models Aeronca
kit powered by a .20 four stroke, and launching on a thermal, the only
one of the day, achieved a time of over 3 minutes with extra points for
landing within the circles.
George Strut did his best to top this score flying an 'Xtreme' but was
unable to do so. Steve’s further attempts were thwarted by lack of
lift and finished third.
So, well done to Mick Wilson, scoring 238 points under tricky flying
conditions.
