Langer Fly In 2001

The 2001 Fly-in was blessed by fine, dry and warm weather, making camping a pleasure. All those who turned up, (and that meant shedloads) had a superb weekend of flying. From the B17 of Dave Johnson to the blistering fast gas turbine powered jet of Nick Smith, every type of model showed off its best performance, meaning that there was something to look at all the time, even if you were not flying. The Ripmax Team did their usual polished performance, and the Lancasters of the Melton Memorial Flight looked superb over Langer, especially when you remember that Lancaster 1's were the first aircraft to use this base, back in 1942.
A view from the Tx tent early on Saturday morning, with the Melton Memorial flight in the background, and the B17 of Dave Johnson in the middle of a couple of large scale aerobats.

The opposite view- hundreds of smaller models were on show, and the flying never stopped all day.

Dave Johnson and his son making ready the B17 for another sortie- this aircraft needed all of the Langar runway to land, Dave having to use all of his excellent piloting skills to get the big bird in safely.

Brian, a visitor all the way from the Newcastle area, goes to inspect a renovated helicopter and Auster which dropped in on us for a courtesy visit. The pilots toured the model site and were very impressed, especially with the gas turbine powered model of club member Nick Smith.
